Legco president rejects amendments to law Legislative Council president Jasper Tsang Yuk-sing has rejected all 110,000 amendments proposed by medical sector lawmaker Dr Leung Ka-lau for the Medical Registration Ordinance. Tsang said such amendments violated Legco's rules of procedure. The government proposed to reform the Medical Council by amending the ordinance, to improve efficiency in handling complaints against doctors. But doctors are worried the reform would affect the medical watchdog's professionalism by introducing more appointed members than elected ones. The health minister Dr Ko Wing-man said he hoped the amendment could be passed as soon as possible. The second reading for the ordinance will resume on Wednesday. |
